Jan van den Biesen

Educated as a physicist, Jan van den Biesen joined Philips in 1983 to work on semiconductor research. After his return in 1987 from an exchange program with Hitachi Research in Tokyo, he held a series of staff positions in various parts of the company. For the past 20 years he has been promoting Philips' R&D interests with public authorities and other external stakeholders, mainly at a European and Dutch level. Driven to make Europe a better place for research and innovation, he actively contributed to shaping successive EU Framework Programs, including Horizon 2020, played an instrumental role in initiating new programs for collaborative R&D, and addressed a wide range of European and Dutch policy issues to improve general framework conditions for research and innovation.
