Christian Ehler was born 17 August 1963 in Munich, Germany. He holds a degree in journalism and economics from the Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität München in Munich (1991) as well as a PhD in political science (1993). Until 2010 Mr. Ehler held the position of Managing Director of co:bios Technologiezentrum Hennigsdorf, formerly known as Biotech GmbH.
In the European Parliament Mr. Ehler is a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, the Subcommittee on Security and Defense and a substitute member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Between 2011 and 2013 Christian Ehler served as the European Parliament's Rapporteur for the Horizon 2020 Rules for Participation and EPP Shadow Rapporteur for the Horizon 2020 Framework Regulation. In 2014 he took over the Rapporteurship for Clean Sky 2 and oversaw the legislative procedures for the Innovation Investment Package on behalf of the EPP. In 2015 Christian Ehler was EPP Shadow Rapporteur for the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) in the Parliament's Research Committee.
Since 2011 he has been Chairman of the EPP Working Group for Research and Innovation. In the beginning of the 8th legislature he initiated the Horizon 2020 Monitoring Group in the Parliament's ITRE Committee, allowing for a closer parliamentary scrutiny of programme's implementation.
