Carlos Härtel

Dr Carlos Härtel has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GE Germany & Austria in October 2015. In this role, he oversees GE’s operations in these countries, leads the overall strategy, and coordinates cross-business growth initiatives. In addition, he acts as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for GE Europe. In his CTO function, Carlos Härtel is also responsible for GE’s European Research Center in Garching, Germany, since 2007. He had joined the center in 2003 as manager of the Laboratory for Alternative Energy and Environmental Technologies. Härtel drove the expansion of the facility to a highly-diversified industrial R&D organization, developing cutting-edge technology and hosting scientists from over 40 countries. Prior to joining GE, Härtel worked for Alstom Power’s gas-turbine division in Switzerland. He studied Aerospace Engineering, received a doctorate from TU Munich, and qualified as university lecturer at ETH Zurich in 1999. Carlos Härtel holds a number of patents and has published more than fifty scientific papers. He is President of the European Industrial Research Management Association (EIRMA) as well as Chairman of the EUREKA Cluster EUROGIA2020.
